Planning, Coordination and Evaluation

The CHVI will be implemented in an integrated and coordinated manner across participating federal departments, the provinces and territories, research organizations and key international partners, such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Such an approach ensures effective strategic planning, scientific oversight, coordination and evaluation; supports the communication of progress; and raises the profile of the CHVI amongst stakeholders in Canada and internationally.

A CHVI Secretariat has been created within Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to coordinate and manage CHVI governance and management structures; facilitate collaboration with domestic and international stakeholders; and serve as the focal point for the coordination of the implementation of the CHVI. Its responsibilities include:

  • monitoring key trends in HIV vaccine research and development;
  • enhancing Canada’s contribution to the global efforts by mobilizing expertise, partnerships, resources and liaising with domestic and international stakeholders (e.g., researchers, academics, the private sector);
  • providing secretariat support to the CHVI, including its Interdepartmental Steering Committee and multi-stakeholder advisory committee; and
  • reporting on progress under the CHVI.

CHVI Funding Commitment: $3.38 million over five years

Expected Outcomes:

  • an integrated delivery of CHVI policies, programs and initiatives with domestic and international linkages; and
  • an annual report on the CHVI, including activities and progress on expected outcomes.
